Groups Performing at the Festival.
We are thrilled to announce the amazing line up of groups performing at the Ukulele Mini-Fest! Our talented performers come from all across Scotland, including Glasgow, Uphall, Falkirk, Livingston, and Perth. Get ready for a day filled with fun, music, and good vibes.
Ukey Hooky (Falkirk)
Performing 11:30am - 12:00pm
Ukey Hooky was formed in July 2022 when I was looking to join a Ukulele group but there didn’t appear to be any in Falkirk, so I decided to start my own.
I found a Community Centre that was happy for me to try out the idea so I started off by running a series a series of 6 weekly classes for Complete Beginners and had 10 people on the very first night!
I then produced a Getting Started Guide and our first song book. Shortly afterwards I organised a Showcase for friends and family to come along and support our new players, and have continued running weekly sessions ever since.
In September 2023 Ukey Hooky produced an online beginner’s course; a series of 8 step-by-step videos which takes students from Complete Beginner’s to Competent Strummers, helping to build confidence for new players who join our group.
We meet at Camelon Community Centre in Falkirk every Tuesday from 7pm - 8.30pm.

Ukulele Unison (Uphall)
Performing 1:10pm - 1:40pm
Ukulele Unison formed in September 2017 as a novice group.
Our first gig was booked for the December of that year so not improving wasn’t an option! We performed to an audience of around 70 and rocked them off their feet.
We rehearse at Uphall community centre and play at care homes and sheltered housing across West Lothian.
We have also played at music festivals including ‘Sing On The Bing’ and ‘Party at The Palace.’
It’s fair to say that the audience can expect the unexpected as our repertoire includes music from multiple genres.

Livingston Ukulele Group (Livingston)
Performing 3:40pm - 4:10pm
Livingston Ukulele Club started in 2016 as a gathering of 7 or 8 strummers, meeting on Tuesday evenings to have some fun.
Nowadays we have some 30+ regular members from the Lothians and Fife, and in 2023, we performed 21 gigs all the way from Dysart Harbour to Tarbrax Community Hall!
We welcome folk of all musical abilities, and keep the focus on having fun while learning new tunes too.

Only Four Strings (West Lothian u3a)
Performing 12:20pm - 12:50pm
Only Four Strings are a small group of enthusiastic players and singers that meets twice monthly in Uphall Community Centre.
The group has been running for about five years. We are mixed ability and that’s fine. Most had never played an instrument before and we really enjoy playing and singing together.
We do some gigs here and there, nursing homes and some social gatherings.

Doune Ukulele Group (Stirling / Perthshire)
Performing 2:50pm - 3:20pm
Joe and Jackie Gilmour formed Doune Ukulele Group in March 2022. The idea came about when Joe was looking to join a Ukulele group but couldn’t find anything nearby, so Jackie suggested they start their own group. After posting it on Facebook we had Six Ukulele Players in our front room, four of whom where Complete Beginners. The following week we had Eight members. It was at this point we realised our front room wasn’t big enough to take any more Players and in June 2022 we took the plunge and hired the Rural Hall in Doune.
Since then, membership has increased to over 30, many complete beginners.
We meet at the Rural Hall in Doune every Wednesday evening. We are a warm, friendly, and supportive group. New members of any age or musical ability are always welcome.

Southside Strummers (Glasgow)
Performing 4:30pm - 5:00pm
Started in early 2021, the Southside Strummers are an eclectic group of players from Glasgow South and way beyond.
We're a good bunch of folks representing all of the generations, and bringing with them a super fun range of songs that keep us on our toes each week!
Each Tuesday, we meet in Shawlands, and have a great time singing our songs, learning new tunes and making friends!
As we're fairly new to the ukulele scene, we're really looking forward to connecting with other ukulele players across Scotland!
